the sustainability hub

minimal footprint. maximum style.

We live in a world of mass production and hyper consumerism. So, creating a more sustainable fashion system was one of the main driving forces behind Helen the Brand.

Helen the Brad is proud to offer a wide selection of consciously curated vintage items and locally created artisanal pieces.

All of the style, None of the guilt.

Why Shop Sustainable?

By choosing to buy vintage, secondhand, or up-cycled, you are investing in an item that is well made, timeless and unique. More importantly, you are diverting waste, lowering carbon emissions and reducing natural resource reliance.

Thredup has reported that if everyone bought one second-hand item in a year it would save:

  • 5.7B lbs of CO2, which equates to 66 million trees planted,

  • 25B gallons of water, which is the same as 1.25B showers, and

  • 449M lbs of waste, equalling 18,700 full garbage trucks.

Some sad but straight up facts about the clothing industry…

considering the hard hitting statistics above, we aim to reach the highest standard of sustainability possible…

Reducing Your Impact (further)

although we acknowledge that corporations and big business must reverse their harmful practices and impact in order to make global change possible, there are many ways that we, as individuals, can become more environmentally conscious consumers.

reduce your consumption - the overall consumption of “things” in general. this can be as simple as turning off the faucet while brushing our teeth, taking shorter showers with colder water, or pacing the amount of air conditioning we use in the summer or heat in the winter.  carpooling reduces gasoline consumption and reduces the number of cars on the road. you can change most of your essential mail over to paperless; plus, many newspapers, magazines, and bills can be viewed on the internet.

buy used products – purchasing pre-owned materials reduces demand for raw materials, and some pre-owned products are just as functional as their newer counterparts.  this will usually cost you less money as well!

buy more durable products – choosing a higher quality durable product over cheaper disposable alternatives is a great way to reduce consumption, and also waste.

buy consciously – when available, purchase products that include recycled content or that have reduced environmental impacts.

finally, ask yourself, do you actually need this product?  if the answer is “no” and you forego the purchase for that reason, you’ve just made a conscious effort to reduce your environmental impact.
